We had a chance to get a demonstration of CDV's upcoming WWII-themed real-time strategy game, Codename: Panzers, at E3 2003. The game is being developed by Stormregion, the creator of SWINE, a humorous RTS game that pit rabbits against pigs. Codename: Panzers features a more conventional World War II theme, but it manages to set itself apart with impressive graphics and gameplay elements.

Real-time strategy games with a World War 2 theme don't often have to look good. The audience for such titles are often more concerned with Tables of Organization and Equipment and scenario design and less concerned with making things pretty. But that's not the case for Codename: Panzers. The newest title from Stormregion, the developers of S.W.I.N.E., is as pretty as it is authentic.

Total 3D environments are nice, especially when you can zoom in and out and also rotate the camera to fit your needs; but 3D environments are even better when they are filled with dynamic and destructible objects. No longer will trees and telephone poles block your way -- because you can run them down!

The game is on par with this year's Blitzkrieg, and still has a year of development left to improve it even more. Not that it needs it. E3 - best of Show
