Which games, movies, and books have influenced game development the most, if any?
The developers have been fans of WWII military vehicles since their childhood and have been influenced by movies such as Kelly's Heroes, The Dirty Dozen, The Guns of Navarrone, Das Boot, and Stalingrad. Later came The Enemy at the Gates and Saving Private Ryan. Besides movies, they've got countless books about tanks, airplanes, and different forces such as the Luftwaffe, Fallschirmjäger, SAS, and the Rangers. The Internet also serves as a source of information. You can read veterans' stories on the Web, and, with few exceptions, you can find out all kinds of information about the units you need.
Take me through a typical mission please.
The western Allies organize and conduct a large airborne operation in order to assist the imminent landing. After landing in gliders, your task is to blow up the long-range cannons keeping the whole beach under fire. One of the gliders containing heavy equipment crash lands and blows up so that the German troops and cannons must be destroyed using only light weaponry. An in-game animation shows that our hero unsuccessfully tries to destoy a cannon by placing hand grenades in the barrel. The detachment has to leave them and advance further in order to occupy a village. A house-to-house battle is fought and, finally, a secret way is found to capture a German officer, who has some valuable information to offer. ... Yes, all of that was part of ONE mission!
Is Codename: PANZERS a tactical game or more "arcadish" like the Sudden Strike series, where losing one soldier usually doesn't affect the gameplay much?
In Codename: PANZERS, health and damage values will be adjusted so that the soldiers won't die suddenly from one strike. You won't spend much time on micro-management; several actions are automated or can be set to auto mode. The game is more tactical than Sudden Strike and more action-oriented than most other strategy games. Codename: PANZERS is the golden mean!
What is the setting of Codename: PANZERS?
After choosing a side (German, Soviet, or western Allied), you will control an officer - the hero - who is in charge of controlling your small but well-equipped detachment.

With the Germans you will fight a "blitzkrieg" through the plains and forests of Poland and France, as well as through the rocky mountains of the Balkans. Later come the expansive plains of the Soviet Union both in summer and winter. You will see the size of every settlement from the smallest villages to the biggest cities, such as Moscow and Stalingrad.

In leading the Soviets, you will have to recapture Stalingrad and all of the former Soviet lands as well as conquer all of Eastern Europe, moving through hills, forests, and swampy areas both in winter and summer. The final battle is fought in Berlin, which ends the war in Europe.

The Anglo-American Allies land in Normandy by sea on landing crafts and by air in gliders. After slowly crawling through the bocages, things start progressing rapidly. You have to destroy rocket silos that are launching V2 rockets at London and land gliders near "a bridge too far" in Arnhem. Finally, you have to repel the last German counterattack in the west coming from the Ardennes and fight the Battle of the Bulge in foggy winter conditions without the help of the airforce.
Why should gamers be exited about Codename: PANZERS?
Codename: PANZERS combines tactical combat with RTS (real time strategy) and RPG (role-playing game) elements. New strategic possibilities include the following: the occupation of enemy tanks, the ability to enter strongholds and buildings, and the ability to hear the noise of tank engines, tracks, and weapon fire.

Soldiers gain experience in battle and develop four weapon skills. Over the course of the game, vehicles and squads of soldiers can be carried over to other missions, making it necessary for you to take care of your men. So keep your soldiers alive and develop their skills as best you can.

In-game animations interrupt gameplay to bring the story forward, to show spectacular action, or just to provide you with a clue as to how to complete a certain objective. Amazing graphics and sound effects will fulfill your every desire! Just take a look at the screenshots.
